Friday Follow, May 6

Now that I've been blogging for about a year (despite the archive, I actually started blogging Jan 2010, and then backdated things to make it appear meatier!), I've found some really great blogs that I look forward to reading -- and I want to share them.  I'm sort of stealing the Twitter Friday Follow (#ff) meme and doing my own variation.  My recommendations for this month-ish:

Diary of an Eccentric: Anna is also the creator of the War Through the Generations Reading Challenge.  Her blog is a mix of fiction and nonfiction, well known releases as well as smaller ones, and I find some of the most interesting books thanks to her reviews.  She's wonderfully conscientious about responding to comments, too, making her blog very friendly and welcoming.

Quillery: Quill is the source of one of my favorite book lists, her epic Mash-ups and Mimicries, Twisted Histories, and Continuations and Alternates page.  It's divine. She reviews comics as well as books and has introduced me to a number of fun supernatural/paranormal authors that are new to me.

The Romantic Armchair Traveler: Danielle writes exceptional book reviews that go beyond plot summary and brief opinion.  She has a travel focus on her blog, and her reviews are a wonderful mix of book talk and geographic/cultural history.  They're deliciously meaty and I always enjoy reading them -- especially when I'm in need of a getaway.

Journal, Mary Robinette Kowal: Mary Robinette Kowal is a fabulous author who wowed me with her short fiction.  It's sci-fi-ish, historical and speculative, with really amazing heroines.  Her journal-blog features a great deal of her writing -- both excerpts as well as her thoughts on the craft -- as well as reflections on other interests (like puppetry!).  Kowal has just begun her newest book and readers are invited to follow along as the book is drafted.

vvb32:  An eclectic mix of genres and a short, punchy, playful review style, Velvet's blog is loaded with giveaways and themes that always captivate me.  She's one of the first bloggers I got to 'know' when I started and her warm enthusiasm and support of other bloggers is infectious.

The zombies want you uninformed...: Confession -- this blogger, Natalie, is my real life bestie.  BUT I justify including her because she's pretty awesome and super hilarious.  If you like SyFy Saturday night movies, you'll love her blog!
