Telegraph Avenue Readalong!

My first readalong! Can you believe it? I now officially feel like a very fancy blogger.

I'm thrilled to be participating in the Michael Chabon Telegraph Avenue Readalong, sponsored by Emily at As The Crowe Flies (and Reads!). Every Tuesday for the next three weeks I'll be sharing my thoughts on the book so be sure to pop by.

This is my first Michael Chabon novel -- and I'm pretty excited. Somewhere, I read a comparison that Chabon is to male literary readers what Ann Patchett is to female literary readers. Which is... i-i-i-interesting as I'm on the fence about Patchett after my one experience with her earlier this year.

What says all of you? Love Chabon? Hate him?

  1. Yay for a first read-along! I don't know about the Chabon and Pratchett thing (disclosure: I've never read Pratchett), but I do love me some Chabon and I don't think it's because of my dude-ness. But maybe it is? I'm assuming your bad-ish experience with Pratchett was State of Wonder? People either love that book or hate it and there isn't much in-between.

But since you have't read Chabon before - if you like this one then you should DEFINITELY read Kavalier & Clay! It's the book that won him the Pulitzer and it's 100% excellent.

    1. Brooks -- State of Wonder was the book I disliked -- I really hated the end. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Everyone says I need to try K&C -- since I'm giving Patchett another try this month, I think I'll do another Chabon as well -- just to be fair. Really looking forward to your thoughts on this book as we go along -- this is going to be so fun for me.

  4. I've only read Chabon's Kavalier & Clay, but I loved that book, so I have high hopes. I see you read State of Wonder. Definitely not my favorite Patchett by a long shot. Try her Bel Canto instead--a much better book.

    1. Others have recommended Bel Canto -- I plan to read The Magician's Assistant later this month so hopefully I'll dig it more.

  5. I have no idea what to make of the boys like Chabon, girls like Patchett scenario--I've never heard that. But here's hoping you enjoy the readalong!

    1. It was one person's observation and just struck me as apt given my own feelings on Patchett -- have just started TA and am pleasantly surprised -- I'm jotting notes like mad!

  7. I looooooove Chabon. Perhaps I'll have to read along with you all. I was trying to save this one until closer to its pub date, but if everyone's going to be talking about it, I'll get jealous!
