Weekend reads, anniversary, and last day of ...!

Today is my last day of work for seven weeks!  (Imagine crazy muppet arms waving in the air.)  I'm excited, a little stressed, excited, nervous, excited, crazed, and super excited.  I'm in town for about nine days doing research, participating in a friend's wedding, and then I'm off to western Mass for five weeks to write!

I expect I'll be reading and I still have some scheduled reviews, so I will be around.  But I apologize for the total radio silence on my end -- I just returned from my second business trip in as many weeks and I've got so much backlog blog email and commenting to do.  Forgive me for being absent!  I  hope to catch up over the next week.

So...what are you reading this weekend? I expect I'll finish up the deadly delicious Cars and Girls, a femnoir compilation that is uh-mah-zing.  After that, Deborah Swift's A Divided Inheritance.

I'm contemplating doing Dewey's Read-a-Thon -- are any of you participating?

And finally, today is my fifth wedding anniversary.  Legal marriage isn't a right for all couples yet, but I'm grateful to live in a state where it has been legal for quite a while, and to be surrounded by family and friends who rejoice, support, and advocate for all to have the right to legally marry.

  1. Happy, happy anniversary -- five years! Awesome. So excited as you begin your writing journey and can't wait to hear all about it . . . I know it's going to be fantastic!

Wish I had time to do the Read-a-Thon, but I'm officially moving in with my fiance this week (eep!) and I know I'll barely have time to sit, let alone read. But I'm optimistic that, after the wedding, life will calm down and I can totally have a weekend to just hang with a book (or five).

  4. Happy anniversary!!! Love that photo of the two of you.

And I hope your time away is productive and satisfying. I never get to participate in the Read-a-Thon. October is my busiest month, and though it's full of really fun things, I still would love a weekend to read. :)

    1. Normally I'd never be able to do Read-a-thon but the timing works out for once -- helped by my sabbatical. So excited. And thank you -- I love that photo, too. It makes me so happy!

  10. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary to you and your wife! It's wonderful that you live in a state where the proper rights are afforded you to marry and all that goes along with that right. I see red when states are backwards about people's right to marry, share possessions etc. I love the photo of you and your wife...adorable!

Enjoy your time off...it's going to go quickly especially the time you're at home, before you go off on your writing adventure. So savor the minutes, hours and days, Audra. You sure deserve a break.

I'm planning to participate in the Read-a-thon. I've signed up for it but I haven't chosen any books yet...mainly because I tend to read what I feel like reading at a given time. Tonight I'll pick out a bunch of books, smaller rather than larger ones...and then set my alarm, I'm usually up by 7 but, knowing me, since I've a specific reason to be up I'll sleep through my start time!
Let me know if you decide to do the read-a-thon for sure. I'll check your blog tomorrow anyway!

  13. Happy Anniversary!! & seven weeks off work?? Enjoy!

I started Jamie's Ford newest (Songs of Willow Frost) a few days ago but set it down for a netgalley book that was expiring soon (ha!). I'm hoping to go back and finish it this weekend.

  16. I'm behind on my blog reading and trying to catch up a little! Happy Anniversary and congrats on your long writing holiday! Does this mean you won't be at the Boston Book Fest on Saturday? Next year I'm going to try to organize a book blogger meet-up there!
