Weekend reads and I'm expecting!

I'm not very good at being coy or clever, so hopefully the photo makes it clear: I'm pregnant!  I'm super excited/nervous/excited and still, even at 12 weeks, filled with disbelief!  (I've also been in agony keeping this a secret!)

My weekend read is The Quick by Lauren Owen which so far is pretty good. I've been avoiding baby books like crazy, although perhaps I'll pay for this hubris later. But I'm married to a professional nanny who is a bit of a know-it-all, so I feel like I'm in good hands.  (Again, I may pay for this later!)

What are you reading this weekend?  Got a favorite pregnancy or parenting book you think I should pick up?

    1. Thanks -- it still feels very surreal! I'll be happy to share recs (I mean, they're books, right???) but will be unbelievable to imagine being a parent. I keep boggling.

  9. I hated all of the pregnancy books. They all seemed so ridiculous to me. So, I can't recommend any for you. BUT, how exciting for you both! I love how you tried to talk about books in the same post. LOL.

  11. Congrats! What a secret! Parenting books...um, no idea. I don't think you need the staple "What to expect when your expecting" with a nanny in the house...sooo, how about something silly -- The Baby Owner's Manual, The Baby Owner's Maintenance Log, and The Baby Owner's Games and Activity Book -- I found the activity book inventive as a first-time mom -- but no professional nannies here -- and I liked the Baby Owner's Manual for its silliness. You can check the review here if you want to see what I found: http://savvyverseandwit.com/2011/08/review-of-quirks-the-baby-owners-books.html

  20. Congratulations! I almost missed this news, just backtracked here from a later post! I was pregnant in pre-Facebook and Twitter times, so I can only imagine how much harder it is to keep from spilling the beans nowadays!

  21. Hooray! So glad to hear things are still going well:-) Expecting Better has been my Bible throughout pregnancy. It's the only book worth reading (that I've discovered.) I also loved Labor Day: Birth Stories from Today's Best Women Writers, but I wasn't ready to read it until later in my pregnancy. When you start to want to learn more about birth, it's a fabulous collection of essays, but some are dark and sad.
