Midweek update: I'm moved!

 I'm moved!!!!!

I've not really had a chance to read until this morning, on my commute in to work, so I'm very behind on reviews (never mind the ever-growing backlog, le sigh!).  But we crossed the gigantic hurdle of moving -- from a two-bedroom to a very small one-bedroom -- and are now free from the very stressful situation of a very hateful landlady.

To celebrate (and because my apartment is too messy to share photos of yet!), here are photos of my two cats in their new cat beds. (Yes, the nursery's Moby-Dick/behemoth theme has spilled into the rest of the house.)

What are all of you reading this week?  I'm finishing up Sinful Folk and hopefully starting The Miniaturist, which I miraculously got from the library (I had requested it, anticipating a many month wait!).

I'm behind on visiting and commenting your blogs, and I apologize for that.  We're currently internet-less and likely to remain so for the week, but I promise to hop back into visiting and commenting as soon as I can.  I miss my bookish friends!

  1. I bet you are glad the move is behind you. I know you still have tons of stuff to do but soon you will be able to put your feet up and relax.

I am reading Twelve Years a Slave and I think I have told no less than 3 people today that I am not in the mood to read it, but I have to since it's a book club pick, MY pick and we meet next week. Instead, I'd rather read Tartt's The Little Friend.

    1. It is such a relief to be done -- unpacking feels almost easy after all the drama of the move!

And I feel you on that -- sometimes heavy lit, no matter how good, is just Too Much (esp with another tempting read on the horizon!).

  2. Whew, congrats on getting your move all done -- hope you and your wife are getting all settled-ish, as it looks like your cats are. :) A hateful landlady sounds pretty awful, so I'm glad that you're no longer having to deal with that situation!

Though we moved two months ago, the house is still in a state of controlled chaos . . . and I haven't had much energy to read, either. Still, I am slowly making my way through Jean Kwok's Mambo In Chinatown, which is really very good! We're going away this weekend to visit family, so I'm hoping I'll get some good reading time in then. :)

    1. Our new place is so small, I'm hopefully we'll get wrapped up with unpacking in a few weeks (pleaseplease). Hope the family visit goes well and you do get to read -- I'm looking forward to having nights back for reading (if I can keep my eyes open!).

  3. The cat crawl space is adorable! Congratulations on the move! I've been thinking about moving, but we've been gardening here for years and I don't want to leave all the plantings behind! I'm so behind on reviews, I wish I could blame it on a legitimate reason like a move!

    1. Oh, I would be hard pressed to leaving behind a garden I've nurtured! We have a plot in a community garden, so it's nice we can keep the same space no matter how often we move. Good luck catching up on reviews -- ugh, it's such a chore!

  4. I am sure that you are exhilarated to be out from that landlady's thumb...she was horrendous! I hope that you enjoy your new place very much and are ready for Little Friend's arrival soon!

  7. Yay on the move! It's been a while since I've stopped by here, so I didn't realize you had been planning that. I LOVE your cat beds. My own moggies would like them, too. Good luck settling in, and may you find some unexpected moments for reading.

    1. We hadn't been planning on it, not really -- our landlady ordered us to move when she found out I was pregnant! So it's been a bit of a stressful scramble, but we're done, and thank god, etc. :) I'm hoping to get some serious reading in this weekend!

  8. Mean landlords are the worst. So glad you've found something new! Must be a relief to finally be moved.
